The first Independence

9th Octber 1962 Uganda gets its Independence, the event took place on Kololo airstrip which was an old out of use light aircraft airfield that the British abandoned sometime before Uganda's independence. Rumors had it that it was intended to be the country's main airport before the Entebbe airport was built.The fist President was Sir Edward Muteesa he was also the Kabaka of Buganda then.The first Prime Minister Apollo Milton Obote was sworn in and received the instruments of power from the Duke of Kent in Kampala on October 9, 1962.
